The Virology Division provides a structure for clinicians, diagnostic scientists, research scientists to work together in bringing state of the art virology diagnostics and therapies to improve patient care.
Care of the individual with illness is paramount, and we integrate clinical care, diagnostic assessment, and research of viral illness to benefit the individual.
We aim to:
- Perform research projects that integrate basic studies of pathogenesis with areas of clinical need identified at community, governmental, academic and clinical levels. Our research focuses on those groups most vulnerable to complications of viral infectious diseases.
- Train undergraduate students, postgraduate students, clinicians and the community in virology research.
- Perform integrated research and in virology and inflammation for the improvement of both sciences, with the ultimate goal of shedding light on the infectious agent and its interaction with the host.
- Provide a structure for enthusiastic collaborators to apply scientific and clinical skills to the major infectious problems diseases facing Australia.
Through better understanding we provide better care.
